Since 2002, the Hammerschmiede spirits manufacturer from the Harz region has stood for sophisticated whisky from the heart of Germany. Always bottled in small quantities without chill filtration or coloring, the entirely handcrafted Hercynian Single Malts are released in four series. One of them: The Alrik. The team bottles only 600 to 1,500 bottles of this whisky annually, which began as a private pastime. At the beginning of the year, the range expands with a noble new bottling, Edition 1912 Samhain, appropriately named after the festival of reflection, which stands for both end and new beginning.

The Alrik range itself stands for lavish aromas with plenty of wood smoke. The Hercynian Distilling Co. series relies exclusively on "woodsmoked" smoked malt, which is intensely smoked with beech and alder wood. The Edition 1912 Samhain is no exception. Like all Edition 1912 releases, Samhain matured for a long period in selected PX sherry casks before being married in a fresh sherry butt. The aromas of fresh cookie dough and robust, sometimes ash-like smoke notes, all the way to honey-glazed smoked bacon, toffee, and caramel candies, were thus able to combine optimally before the single malt flowed into bottles with velvety labels at an impressive 61.3% vol.
