The basis for Stauning's production is therefore everything that grows around the distillery\u003cstrong\u003e: locally grown barley and rye, peat from the Klosterlund Museum, which documents Denmark's peat extraction, and heather.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eDistillation over an open fire gives the partly smoked new make \u003cstrong\u003edeep, complex aromas\u003c\/strong\u003e. It reaches full maturity in \u003cstrong\u003eBourbon Barrels and Virgin Oak Casks\u003c\/strong\u003e or in casks previously used for Mezcal, Cognac, Calvados, Rum or Vermouth.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis results in \u003cstrong\u003efascinating bottlings such as\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003cfont color=\"#FF0000\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRYE\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/font\u003e. 51% rye and 49% barley malt – each from the in-house malting floor – form the basis for Stauning's standard. This reflects the founders' adventurous spirit, as malting rye is rather unusual for good reason. The effort for this \u003cstrong\u003ewhisky with distinct grain notes and a long, soft, fruity-sweet finish\u003c\/strong\u003e is worthwhile.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn addition to this \u003cstrong\u003eliquid version of freshly baked rye bread\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cfont color=\"#FF0000\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSMOKE \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/font\u003eis part of the Core Range. For the \u003cstrong\u003efurther development of PEAT\u003c\/strong\u003e, malt is smoked over a combination of peat and some heather, which gives the whisky uniquely Danish aromas. Some smoke, some spice, sweetness and a lot of complexity combine in an \u003cstrong\u003eextremely versatile whisky\u003c\/strong\u003e. For this, the distillers blend \u003cstrong\u003eRYE with smoky Single Malt Whiskies\u003c\/strong\u003e from the distillery. The name KAOS is based on Thorvald Stauning, who used the slogan \"Stauning or Chaos\" to be re-elected as Danish Prime Minister in 1935.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat defines Stauning is now no longer only in the bottle. \u003cstrong\u003eThe new bottles depict the history of the distillery on Ringkøbing Fjord\u003c\/strong\u003e – elaborately illustrated by the Danish artist Asbjørn Staunstrup Lund.
