Fresh and vibrant: This Port Askaig was inspired by spring. The bottling is characterized by two different vintage whiskies from a distillery on the northeast coast of Islay, near the village of Port Askaig. A total of 18 ex-Bourbon hogsheads from 2006 and 2007 were used for this multifaceted single malt, which was bottled in spring 2020.
The Spring Edition tastes harmonious: The sweetness of stone fruit and toffee is balanced by peaty smoke and campfire aroma. Mineral-maritime and citrus notes, dried mint, and the aroma of freshly mown grass create a spring-like mood. A refreshing treat – just in time for the start of summer!
Distillery Information
The port town of Port Askaig is the gateway to the whisky island of Islay. For hundreds of years, it has offered fans of the water of life and curious explorers access to the whisky region of the same name – and to its unmistakable single malts. A strongly smoky, peaty taste paired with sweet, fruity aromas – this is typical for many of the famous Islay whiskies. And it is precisely these that the independent bottler Port Askaig has dedicated itself to. Its goal: Islay Single Malts that capture the unique character of the island – with smoky notes, associations of salty sea breeze, and a hint of seaweed. There are currently nine active distilleries in the Islay whisky region. Which ones Port Askaig's bottlings come from is unknown – despite many rumors and conjectures. In 2009, the renowned whisky expert Sukhinder Singh founded the Port Askaig brand. He recently pointed out that he now works with three different Islay distilleries for his whiskies. Which ones exactly remains his secret. The taste of Port Askaig whiskies is typical of Islay Single Malts: The peat used to dry the malt provides light to strong smoky aromas. And also the typical maritime notes with hints of seaweed – which emerge when the peat cut on Islay is burned. To preserve the unadulterated character of the distillates, the bottlings are neither colored nor chill-filtered. Many of Port Askaig's batches are also limited.
