The Grand Vintage 2015 – the house's 76th vintage – is the result of a risky year marked by a dramatic heatwave, with the hottest temperatures the region had experienced since 1961. After six years in the cellar, this Champagne displays remarkable finesse.
TASTING NOTES
Color: Delicate yellow with shimmering greenish reflections
Aroma: Initially notes of breadcrumbs, fresh brioche and almond paste, then soft elderflower and jasmine as well as peach and watermelon.
Taste: Direct and full-bodied on the palate with nuances of blossoms, anise and menthol, lending lightness and freshness. The finish lingers with a delicate bitterness reminiscent of fresh almonds.
ASSEMBLAGE AND ORIGIN
This excellent vintage consists of 44% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay and 24% Pinot Meunier. In Champagne, 2015 was a year of tension, drama and uncertainty, with an abrupt change between mild and cold periods as well as extreme heat. The temperature drop in August was followed by abundant rain, which relaxed the parched soil and enabled the harvest of exceptional red grapes.
Serving suggestions:
It makes an excellent aperitif. Choose warm roasted aromas to complement the maturity of this Champagne. Serve a spicy or slightly bitter sauce that harmonizes with the light grapefruit notes in the finish.
