Tasting Notes:
Initially strongly smoky with cherries and blackberries. Subsequently, traces of various nuts and light vanilla. 

 

With bottlings under the name Ledaig, the Isle of Mull competes with heavily peated Islay whiskies: The branch of the Tobermory Distillery is synonymous with heavily smoky single malts. Kirsch Import and Signatory Vintage have set out to offer fans of bonfire, smoke and peat aromas a diverse range of new flavor nuances. The result of the collaboration is a six-part, limited whisky series for the German market, which, in addition to strong smoke notes and aromas of sea salt and spray, plays the entire keyboard of sherry, wine and fruit notes: the Ledaig Cuvée Series.

Marrying single malts into outstanding cuvées is probably one of the greatest challenges in the whisky world. A delicate touch is required when it comes to selecting harmonious casks. Andrew Symington of Signatory Vintage is known worldwide for his great talent in this field. In cooperation with us, the independent bottler decided for the innovative Cuvée Series to take a rare approach in the industry for the first time: the marriage exclusively with casks previously filled with wine and sherry.

These are initially Refill Spanish Butts, in which the smoky single malts matured for approx. six to ten years after distillation on June 7, 2007 or September 5, 2011. In selected Refill Port, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Madeira or Côtes de Provence Hogsheads from Andrew Symington's wood treasure trove of over 10,000 casks, the Ledaigs received a 29 to 34-month finish. Finally, Signatory combined the whisky with half of the distillate from one of the Refill Spanish Butts, which was allowed to remain there for the entire maturation period.

The taste result is as complex as the process: heavy smoke and fresh maritime notes complemented by intensely fruity aromas. With plum jam and strawberry, tropical fruit and overripe peach, cherries, raisins and berries, the Ledaig Cuvée Series promises highly aromatic taste experiences for discerning fans of smoky single malts. The eight to twelve-year-old cuvées were bottled at cask strength of at least 60.4% vol. and are, of course, neither colored nor chill-filtered.

Noble cuvées in the best Signatory tradition, newly composed through the combination of different wine and sherry casks – with the six smoky-aromatic bottlings, enjoyable autumn evenings for smoke fans are guaranteed.
