Aroma: Expressive on the nose, rich and full-bodied with aromas of honey, licorice, menthol, orange peel, and grapefruit.
Taste: Lively and harmonious, yet with beautiful tension on the palate. Notes of quince, candied fruit, citrus, yellow kiwi, starfruit, honey, apple pie, shortbread, orange peel, peony, and fennel with hints of blossoms and menthol.
Vintage: The Krug 2008 vintage, dubbed "Classic Beauty" by the tasting committee members, is something truly special: intense, elegant, and powerful with an impressive structure, it reflects the northern climate in which it was produced. 2008 was one of the coldest years in Champagne in 14 years. With each vintage, Maison Krug celebrates the unique character of a particular year. The 2008 vintage is particularly harmonious: expressive, complex, yet balanced, with a long, precise finish.
Harvest: A year for a classic – 2008 was a cool, not overly sunny year with generally stable temperatures. The lack of extremes meant a slow and steady ripening of the grapes in Krug's vineyards. As a result, the fruit was intense, elegant, and wonderfully structured. Slightly more than half of the selected wines are Pinot Noir. Meunier (25%) provides tension with citrus notes, while aromatic Chardonnay (22%) adds a fruity touch to the blend.
