The Nose: Wet flint and damp forest floor fill the nose on the first sniff, pear drops sneak in with some fruit, followed by dried oak. The oak becomes a little softer and richer, light vanilla, caramel and mallow work wonderfully together, leading to earthy spices and worn leather.
Palate: Oily and rich, the taste fills the whole mouth, leather and licorice dominate at first, anise following closely behind. Suddenly, you are surprised by intense berry notes that are almost medicinal but still very comforting. This is a complex, grown-up dram that effortlessly transitions between spices, wood and fruit, it is earthy, rooty and absolutely delicious.
Finish: Licorice dominates the finish, it is warm, strong and spicy, oily yet deeply satisfying and pleasant, indefinably autumnal, perhaps wet leaves, perhaps earth, simply glorious.
