The distillery at the foot of the 840 m high Ben Rinnes, whose name it later adopted, was founded in 1826 by Peter Mackenzie.

Do you know the original idea behind "Signatory Vintage"? Each of founder Andrew Symington's single cask bottlings was supposed to bear the signature of a prominent personality. Before he even found a worthy signer, his first single cask Scotch whisky – a Glenlivet 1968 – was already sold out. Symington then discarded the signature idea, but the brand name remained. His warehouse houses more than 10,000 casks – some from distilleries that no longer exist or that normally only produce whisky for blends. This also applies to North British from Edinburgh. Single grain bottlings from the grain distillery are extremely rare. One of these exclusive whiskies made it into our newsletter this week: After 28 years in a refill sherry butt, the fruity spirit was bottled on March 4, 2020, into just 283 bottles.
