H. Blin - Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs 'Quintessence Meunier' 2011 Champagne is typically made from two grape varietals: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, either blended or in single varietal forms of Blanc de Blancs (Chard) and Blanc de Noirs (Pinot). But then there is Pinot Meunier, the other red grape in Champagne that has not gotten the attention it deserves - and that's a shame, because Meunier is an exciting and flavorful grape. Although Meunier is mostly grown in the Marne Valley, it accounts for more than a third of Champagne's vineyards. What's more, Champagne drinkers have been drinking more Meunier than they know, but they never had the opportunity to see it.

Blin, a 70-year-old family cooperative, Quintessence offers us the rare opportunity to taste 100% Meunier from near the village of Vincelles - and we can tell you that it does not disappoint. It is an incredibly unique interpretation of Champagne with much more fruit and body than the average Champagne. Taste profile: Full-bodied, dry.
